| Stated Role | The core functions of the Ministry are derived from and consistent with the Ministry’s mandate as contained in the Presidential Circular No. 3 of July 2003 and the national policy priorities as contained in the ERS of 2003-2007 and PRSP of 2000-2004. These core functions are:<P>o Formulation of legal policies and policies on the administration of justice;<P>o Harmonization of laws with the new constitution and setting up structures and institutions for consolidating democratic gains, good governance, ethics and values, promotion and protection of human rights, enhance transparency and accountability;<P>o Consolidation and codification of laws for promotion of democratic gains;<P>o Development and institutionalisation of anti-corruption strategies and programmes;<P>o Legal policy and advisory services;<P>o Development of legal education;<P>o Coordinate and spearhead the development and implementation of the sector wide justice, law and order reform programme. <P> |
