The Council is responsible for the promotion and coordination of tertiary education and for the determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in tertiary institutions.<P>In addition, the Council is mandated to:<P>formulate policy on tertiary education and advise Government accordingly; <P>coordinate the long term planning and overall development of tertiary education; <P>liaise with both public and private sectors of the economy on all matters relating to human resources development and requirements; <P>plan for the funding of tertiary education research including the recurrent and development needs of public tertiary institutions; <P>promote coordination among tertiary institutions; <P>receive and approve applications from persons seeking to establish private tertiary institutions; <P>review and approve programmes of study in respect of private tertiary institution; <P>ensure that quality assurance procedures are in place in all tertiary institutions; <P>ensure the audit of physical facilities and the assessment of their adequacy in tertiary institutions; <P>accredit private tertiary institutions; <P> |
