| Notes |
History Boipelego Education Project Unit was established in 1975 as a ten year pilot Project Implementing Unit under Ministry of Works Transport and Communication (Department of Architecture and Building Services). The projects involved the construction and maintenance of Community Junior Secondary Schools, Colleges of Education, Education Centres and Vocational Training Centres. Its inception was intended to relieve Department of Architecture and Building Services from the responsibility of managing the project since the donor (African Development Bank) was providing technical support of project administration to over see the project. In 1985 the Botswana Government decided to proceed with massive expansion of Community Junior Secondary Schools. The functions of Boipelego Education Project Unit were transferred from Ministry of Works Transport and Communication to the Ministry of Education. African Development Bank funded these projects up to 1996. In 1997 the Botswana Government took over the funding of the construction and maintenance of all Community Junior Secondary Schools. Further, in keeping with the recommendations of the 1994 Revised National Policy on Education the Unit is now also responsible for the administration of brigades facilities, construction of new centres, together with expansion and maintenance of existing ones.
