Welcome to the webpage of the Legislative Drafting Division of the Attorney General's Chambers, Republic of Botswana.<P>The main function of the Division is the drafting of Legislation. Legislative Drafting involves the preparation and drafting of principal and subsidiary legislation and the editing of the Government Gazette; revision and consolidation of the Laws of Botswana in accordance with the Revision of the Laws Act (Cap.01:03); and the preparation of the annual bound editions of the Botswana Statute Laws for publication by the Department of Government Printing and Publishing.<P>The Laws of Botswana are available in a set of 16 volumes and may be purchased from the Department of Government Printing and Publishing. The Botswana Law Reports may also be purchased from the Department of Government Printing and Publishing. Currently, the latest volume available for purchase is BLR 2004 (2).<P>The Division also provides legal advice that relates to statutory interpretation.<P><P>In addition to its core business of Legislative drafting, the Division also handles Law Reporting. Law Reporting involves editing and publishing of the Botswana Law Reports. After the pre-independence Bechuanaland Law Reports (1964-1967), the Botswana Law Reports have been published since 1968. <P> |
