Notes The district of Moka is divided into 14 VCAs (Village Council Areas), comprising of Camp Thorel, Dagotiere, Dubreuil, Esperance, La Laura, Malenga, L'Avenir, Melrose, Moka, Montagne Blanche, Providence, Quartier Militaire, Ripailles, Saint Pierre and Verdun.
The District of Moka is the vibrant centre of tertiary education in Mauritius. It is home to the University of Mauritius, the Institute of Pedagogy, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and the SSR Medical College. The Chateau du Reduit, the official residence of the island's former governors is also situated within the District of Moka, along with the E.N.T. Hospital, the M.S.I.R.I., the sugar industry's research centre and the Mon Desert Alma sugar estate which is situated in Saint Pierre. It is equally home to the District Council of the East (Moka-Flacq).
The District of Flacq is sub-divided into 22 VCAs (Village Council Areas) which comprise of : Bel Air Riviere Seche, Bon Accueil, Brisee Verdiere, Camp de Masque, Camp de Masque Pave, Camp Ithier, Centre de Flacq, Clemencia, Ecroignard, Grande Riviere Sud Est, Lallmatie, L’Aventure, Mare la Chaux, Medine Camp de Masque, Olivia, Poste de Flacq, Quatre Cocos, Queen Victoria, Saint Julien, Saint Julien d’Hotman, Sebastopol and Trou d’Eau Douce.
Some of the leading five-star hotels of the island, the legendary Puits des Hollandais, a monument commemorating the SMF soldiers lost at sea and the victims of the Heidelberg air crash and the F.U.E.L and Deep River-Beau Champ sugar estates are all situated within the District of Flacq.
