Notes UNMIS Reports on DDR Progress at CJMC - During the 04 July CJMC, the UNMIS DDR Unit reported on the decision to appoint members of the DDR National Council, the establishment of the Other Armed Groups Committee, and on the joint coordination meeting with participation of both National Commissions and UNDDR. Between 06-08 July, discussions were held in Khartoum regarding the formation of a technical coordination committee for the draft of a joint operations plan on DDR Phase I (disarmament and demobilization).
Following the CJMC report, on 06 July a pre-registration meeting took place at the office of the SSDDRC in order to plan and coordinate the SPLA pre-registration exercise. The meeting focused on the need to identify trainers for the pre-registration exercise and identify the SPLA priority area. The following is a list of priority areas in order of descending importance: the 2nd Division – Equatoria – Yei (training point); Lanya (Assembly Area); Papa 91 near Nimule; 3rd Division – Bahr al Ghazal; the 5th Division – Southern Kordofan (Kauda); and the 4th Division – Southern Blue Nile. The SPLA and the SSDDRC have also agreed on criteria for the selection of trainees, the need for a screening process and revised budgeting. [ Jul 2006 ]
