Stated Role The CREPMF is an organ of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) created on 3rd July 1996 by decision of the Council of Ministers of the Union in the context of an establishment of a regional financial market. The organisation plays the role of the capital markets authority of the UEMOA. Described as the public pole in the structure of the financial market, the CREPMF represents the public interest and guarantees the security and the integrity of the market.

The Conseil Régional is composed of 12 members:
*10 Members appointed by the Council of Ministers of Weat African Economic & Monetary Union (WAEMU) of which:
-1 representative for each state of the WAEMU (8 in total);
-1 public accountant
-1 magistrate
The president of the Conseil Régional is appointed by the Council of Ministers of WAEMU for a 3-year mandate renewable once.
* 2 permanent members:
-the Governor of Central Bank of West African Countries BCEAO
-the president of the WAEMU Commission.
The Conseil Régional delegates all administrative tasks to a Secretary General Office composed of 3 directorates:
-Financial Operations & Reglementation Directorate, DFOR
-Administration & Accountancy Directorate, DAC
-Control & Market Monitoring Directorate, DCSM.
The Secretary General Office also includes an Internal Control Office and 3 services:
-Judicial
-Holdings & Budget
-IT

Organisation of the Financial Market of the WAEMU

The Regional Financial Exchange's structures have been split into two major components, that is:
*a public component, formed by the Regional Council for Public Saving and Financial Markets (Conseil Régional de l'Epargne Publique et des Marchés Financiers - CREPMF), representing general interests and overseeing exchange security, and ;
*a private component, composed of the regional securities exchange (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières - BRVM) and a central clearing house (Dépositaire Central/Banque de Règlement - DC/BR) which have the status of private companies but with the mission of serving the public. The private component also includes business stakeholders, particularly brokerage firms, asset administration firms, business developers, stock market consulting firms and canvassing brokers.
