Lycée Mahamane Alassane Haidara of Tombouctou was created as 'La Medersa' in the 1910s and was directed by Mr Ben Hameïdy, a professor of Islamic teaching in Badjindé.
In 1946, La Medersa was relocated at its present location situated in the Western part of the town Djingrey-Ber. Then, under the Decree N° 137/PG-RM of 11 October 1965, La Medersa was renamed 'Lycée Franco-Arabe of Tombouctou'. This change will result into the transformation of the school from an all-level education centre (Primary & Secondary) to a school entirely dedicated to the secondary education.
In 1996, the Decree N° 95-185/PG-RM of 28 April 1995 will rename the Lycée Franco-Arabe of Tombouctou as the Lycée Mahamane Alassane Haidara of Tombouctou, in the memory of the first president of the National Assembly of Mali, originary of Tombouctou. |
