| Notes | The West African Power Pool (WAPP) was created by Decision A/DEC.5/12/99 during the 22 nd Summit of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Governement in order to address the issue of power supply deficiency within West Africa . The West African Power Pool was guided by a Steering Committee comprising Energy Ministers of ECOWAS Member States, supported by a Project Implementation Committee, comprising Managing Directors of Members States utilities and Technical and Institutional Working Groups. The 29 th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS Member States held in Niamey January 2006, adopted the Articles of Agreement establishing the new WAPP Organisation by Decision A/DEC.18/01/06 on 12 January 2006. [ Retrieved on 21 NOV 2007 - http://www.ecowas.int/ ] WAPP Mobilises $2.5m for Information Centre Leadership (Abuja) NEWS 1 November 2007 Posted to the web 1 November 2007 By Idahosa Asowata Abuja The West African Power Pool (WAPP) has mobilised the sum of $2,500,000 for the design of its information and coordination centre which, once built, will house the organisation's headquarter currently stationed in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin. The secretary general of WAPP, Mr. Ahmadou Diallo, who revealed this at the second general assembly of the body at ECOWAS secretariat in Abuja recently, added that in 2008, WAPP intends to consolidate on the successes of 2007. According to Diallo, the performance management systems of the entire WAPP will be implemented as well as the recruitment of workers into vacant positions in the organisation, develop market rules and harmonise technical operations within member countries and further develop its web site. On other fronts, the WAPP scribe disclosed that studies will be launched for Cote d'Ivoire-Liberia-Sierra Leone-Guinea interconnection, monitor the implementation of North Core, implement pre-investment studies for Han-Bobo-Dioulasso-Sikasso-Bamako and Bolgatanga-Ouagadougou interconnection projects and obtain project and loan agreements for the OMVG project.
