Notes The Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (the Institute) was founded and established in 1997 in Banjul, The Gambia, by two human rights lawyers who had previously worked for the Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. The vision for the Institute was a Pan-African non-governmental organization with the specific objective of advancing the respect for human rights in Africa.
