In 1956, 4 steam turbines were installed in Burri with a total capacity of 30MW. In 1962 the first hydro power station of 15MW capacity was operated in Sennar, and then two hydro power stations were built in Elgirba 17.8 MW & ELrosieres 280MW The total installed capacity is increased in the National Grid to about 1000.6 MW by the year 2006,of which 342.8MW is hydro Generation, 180MW is steam generation, 52.8MW is diesel generation, 205 MW is simple cycle GT generation and 220 MW is combined cycle generation. In addition to this, there are many thermal power stations in the isolated areas with a total capacity of 138.2 MW. Thus the total installed capacity in (N E C) in the year 2006 is 1138.8MW.
