| Stated Role |
The Research, Drafting and Speechwriting (RDS) Unit is focused on media research and drafting for The Presidency. It takes overall responsibility for, among other projects, draft speeches for all Political Principals, the Annual Report of The Presidency, National Orders citations, and the writing of op-ed articles, letters to the editor, and writing for other Presidency publications.
Furthermore, the RDS Unit strives to keep The Presidency managers and staff informed of relevant information. To this end, it produces and distributes electronically a daily Presidency Communications diary. This diary serves as a tool to inform managers and other key members of The Presidency of the media on issues of the day and the manner in which The Presidency is responding to these issues. A key aspect of improving the management of the Branch is the coordination of information with other Government Departments. To this end, the RDS Unit (with the Media Liaison Unit) participates in a daily Government-wide communications teleconference.
The RDS Unit spends considerable energy on the writing needs of The Presidency. These include research and drafting required for all speeches of the Political Principals and media interventions, tailored to specific audiences and dealing with a wide variety of topics and areas of the work of Government
|
