| Notes | Biographical Information Mr Mohamed Enver Surty has been appointed the new Deputy Minister of Education. Mr Surty has a strong legal background. He obtained a BA Hons degree from the University of Durban-Westville, a B Proc degree from the University of South Africa, and an LLM degree from the University of the Western Cape. As human rights lawyer, he practised as an attorney from 1977 – 1994. Mr Surty joined Parliament in 1994 as a member of the African National Congress in the then Senate and served in its successor, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP). In 1999 he was appointed Chief Whip of the NCOP. In Parliament he served on the committees on Oversight and Accountability; Members’ Powers and Privileges; Delegated Legislation; Security and Constitutional Review; and the Joint Rules Committee.
