Alicen Chelaite, the assistant minister for Gender and Social Services in the Ministry of Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services, was born in 1945. She is the Member of Parliament for Rongai, Nakuru District in the Rift Valley Province. Chelaite holds a Kenya Certificate of Education from Kapropita Girls School in Baringo district. She trained as a stenographer and personal secretary at the Kenya Government Secretary College. As an ardent advocate for women’s rights, she has participated in several women’s empowerment activities as a life member of Maendeleo ya Wanawake - Kenya’s largest and oldest women’s organisation - and took part in the United Nations’ Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 Beijing, China. She is a champion of affirmative action, and works tirelessly for full access to sporting activities for women, youth, and disabled persons.
