Gaoussou Drabo is the first professional journalist ever to become Minister of Communication in Mali. After he graduated in 1974, he worked for Mali's official newspaper, l'Essor, as press editor of the sports section. Later, he became deputy director and then director of the National Agency of Press and Publicity (AMAP) which coordinates the publication of all government papers. He was highly involved in the national convention to amend the constitution and organize elections after Mali's democratic transition in 1991. He is the author of many publications on topics such as the peace and reconciliation process in northern Mali, good governance, and the Malian legislative process.
