Honourable Minister Flora Buka is currently the Minister of State for Special Affairs Responsible for Lands, Land Reform and Resettlement since 2005. She is a Holder of a Bachelor of Arts General Degree from the University of Zimbabwe. She has worked as a school teacher from 1991 to Mid-1995 before being promoted to become a school head at Svibe Secondary School during Mid-1995 to 2000. In 1999, Honourable Minister Buka was appointed to be a Constitutional Commissioner during the Constitutional Commission. In 2000 she was appointed Minister of State in the Office of the Vice President Responsible for Land Reform Programme. Political Career In 1988 Honourable Minister Buka was Co-opted into Nyaje Youth District As Secretary for Administration After Being Identified as an active youth during the Gokwe University Students Association which was sourcing donations for schools and carrying out research on socio-economic isues in Gokwe. During her years at the University of Zimbabwe, she was elected as Secretary General of the Gokwe University Students Association and in 1990 she was elected as Provincial Deputy Secretary for Transport and Welfare in the Youth League. She was then elected Provincial Secretary for Transport and Welfare in the Women's League in 1993. In 1998, Honourable Minister was elected Provincial Secretary for Commissariat in the Women's League before being elected Member of Parliament for Gokwe East Constituency in 2000. In 2001 she was appointed Member of the Central Committee, a position she holds up to date. In 2003, she was elected Secretary for Gender and Culture in the National Executive of the Women's League. She is also the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women's Parliamentary Caucus and an Executive Member of the SADC Regional Women's Caucuses from 2004 to date. |
