| Notes | Biographical Details: He served most recently as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Guyana. Previously, he has served with the United Nations in various capacities, including as Director of the Africa II Division of the Department of Political Affairs; the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC); and in the Office of Human Resources and Management in New York. Prior to joining the United Nations in 1981, Mr. Mahmoud worked as Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Tunis, and asChairperson of the Bourguiba Institute of Modern Languages in Tunisia. Mr. Mahmoud, who was born on 7 August 1947, holds a PhD in Linguistics from Georgetown University and an M.A. in American and British studies from the University of Tunis.
