Notes The Honourable Mpho Malie was born at Hebron, Pretoria, in the Republic of South Africa on July 4, 1945.
He started his primary education at Hebron Primary School in 1952 and left in 1955 after Standard Two. From 1956 to 1959 he was at Masekhene Primary School where he passed Standard Six. In 1960 he went to Kilnerton Training Institute, where he did Form Three in 1962. From 1963 to 1965 he was at Morris Isaacson High School for the Joint Matriculation Board.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the then University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) at Roma in 1970, after having been there from 1977, and his Master of Science degree from Manitoba, Canada in 1976 having been there from 1973. In 1971 he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Planning from Dakar, Senegal
From 1970 to 1971 he was a high school teacher, and from 1972 to 1973 was Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Education of the government of Lesotho. He lectured at the National University of Lesotho from 1977 to 1983. Since 1983 to date, he is a businessman and politician.
Honourable Malie has promoted donga rehabilitation within the community. He was involved in the New Europa street naming project and other community projects. He also got involved in preschool scheme promotion. He served on international bodies and parliamentary forums.
He was elected member Of Parliament for the Taung Constituency in both the 1993 and 1998 general elections. He was appointed Minister of Information and Broadcasting in1993 and Minister of Foreign Affairs in l995. He vacated the post Of Foreign Minister later in 1995 following a Cabinet reshuffle. In 1998 Mr. Malie was appointed Minister of-Industry, Trade and Marketing.
His Interests include farming, long walks, jogging and playing squash.
He is married with one daughter and three sons.
