| Notes | Malawi suspends anti-graft head Blantyre - Malawi has suspended the head of its anti-corruption watchdog over allegations of mismanagement of public funds, a letter released on Sunday said. Tumalisye Ndovie, head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), had been accused of drawing two salaries, according to a letter signed by the deputy secretary in the office of president and cabinet, Thouse O'dalla. One salary was allegedly from the Malawi Police, where he worked until August last year when President Bingu wa Mutharika appointed him to head the ACB, while another was from the agency itself. "I have received a report, that following your appointment as acting director of Anti-Corruption Bureau ... you have been drawing two salaries", the letter said. If the allegations were true, the letter said, "what you did is mismanagement of public funds". It added that the president had decided to suspend the ACB boss. Ndovie, in an interview with AFP, denied any wrongdoing and threatened legal action against parliament members who accused him of corruption. "I am not a thief. I have instructed my lawyers to see how I can obtain redress in the courts," he said. The suspension came on the heels of demands by opposition parties on Friday that the government should fire the ACB head before parliament passes the agency's budget allocation. Parliament had on Friday rejected an allocation of 477.5 million Malawi Kwachas (about R24,8-million) for the ACB, saying it could not approve money for a body whose head was allegedly corrupt.
