Dr. Osita Ogbu, the Executive Director of the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), is an economist with a wealth of experience in research, research management, institution building, human resource management, policy advice, program management and executive leadership. Prior to joining ATPS, Dr. Ogbu was working for the International Development Research Center (IDRC), Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa as the Senior Program Specialist-Economics/Principal Progam Officer. He was responsible for the Centre’s program on trade, employment and competitiveness in Eastern and Southern Africa. His duties included among others initiating and managing a large program budget, representation of IDRC in international gatherings requiring a high level of diplomacy. Before joining IDRC, he was a consultant research economist at the Africa Region Office of the World Bank in Washington, DC. He conducted research, focusing on Agricultural Research Priority in Africa; Structural Adjustment and Agricultural Response; and Structural Adjustment and the Smallholder. Dr. Ogbu earned a B.Sc. degree in Economics in 1979 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; a M.A. in 1984 and a Ph.D. in 1988 from Howard University, Washington, D.C. He has published more than 30 books, research papers and chapters (in books) on trade, social sector, technology policy, structural adjustment, and sectoral response, among other topics of economics. During his tenure at IDRC, World Bank and currently at ATPS, Dr.Ogbu has attended many conferences and workshops in various African countries. He has traveled widely in Africa, Europe and North America. Besides work, he is interested in poetry and creative writing. He has already published one novel The Moon Also Sets. Dr. Ogbu is a member of the American Economic Association; the Atlantic Economic Association; the International Education Society; and the African Finance and Economic Association.
