| Notes | Honourable P.H.K. Kedikilwe is the Minister for Minerals, Energy and Water Resources (MMEWR), the post he has held since January 2007. He is entrusted with the ministry that oversees the country’s mineral sector, which contributes about 40% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and about 50% to government revenue. The Minister has brought with him a wealth of experience and knowledge of the government and public organizational set up, systems and functions. The Minister’s career is illustrious; he has served as senior civil servant in various government ministries and later in the country’s executive as minister for finance in 1998 and minister for education in 1999. He has served in various prestigious public organizations such as Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), Central Bank of Botswana, Botswana Building Society (BBS) of which he is a founding member. The Minister has also served in crucial commissions/committees, notably Tax Legislation Review Committee and as Chairperson of the Presidential Commission on Education. In 1992 he was awarded a Presidential Order of Honour and received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Botswana in 2007. Honourable Kedikilwe has joined the Ministry at an exciting period when Diamond Trading Company (DTC London) is relocating some of its activities to Botswana. The relocation of some of those activities has seen diamond beneficiation taking place in the country. The beneficiation is expected to create wealth for citizens of Botswana. The Minister attaches great importance to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme of which Botswana is one of the founding countries. He has been instrumental in ensuring and maintaining that the diamonds going through the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) are genuine and used strictly for developmental purpose.
