Former combatant in Zimbabwe’s war of liberation rising to the rank of Detachment Commander (1975-1980), Clerk of Court-Prosecutor-Magistrate (1980-1983).
Served with the Ministry of Defence as a Legal Officer; appointed Deputy Director then Director of Legal Services; appointed first Judge-Advocate General of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in the rank of Brigadier General (1994-2001).
Former Board of Director of the International Society for Military Law and the Law of War, member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (1995-2000), International Humanitarian Law activist who served many assignments with the International Committee of the Red Cross (Geneva).
Founder member and former Chairperson of the Frontline States Military Lawyers Association, former Deputy Chairperson Commonwealth Military Lawyers Association, appointed High Court Judge in April 2001 and chaired the 2004 Delimitation Commission.
