| Notes | Selebi resigns as Interpol president South African police chief Jackie Selebi has resigned as president of Interpol to fight corruption allegations, the world police organisation said on Sunday. Interpol said they had received a letter from Selebi which made clear that his decision was "made in the best interests of Interpol and out of respect for the global law enforcement community that it serves". The appointment, a prestigious achievement for a police chief as well as for the police service represented, is a clear indication of the faith that the international law enforcement community has in policing in Southern Africa. Commissioner Selebi served as Vice President, Africa, since 2002 and has pledged his readiness to vigorously fight international crime trends - including terrorism, drug and human trafficking and organised crime - as head of the 182 member countries of Interpol. A Mail & Guardian investigation has revealed a web of relationships connecting Selebi to Clinton Nassif and Glenn Agliotti, who worked with Kebble on a series of “security” and other projects. Both Nassif and Agliotti appear to have attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies in the course of the latter’s broader investigations into the coordination and financing of contraband smuggling activities.
