Mr. Shengman Zhang, a Chinese national, was appointed Managing Director of the World Bank Group in 1997. Mr. Zhang is in charge of the Bank's operations worldwide, including all its six geographical regions and six Sectoral/Thematic Networks. He also oversees the Operations Policy and Country Strategy Vice Presidency and the Quality Assurance Group. In addition, Mr. Zhang oversees the Information Solutions Group, the Human Resources Vice Presidency, the World Bank Institute, External Affairs, Communications and U.N. Affairs Vice Presidency, the Corporate Secretariat, the Development Committee Secretariat, and the General Services Department. He chairs the Bank's Operations Policy Committee, the Operations Committee, the Sanctions Committee and the Corporate Committee on Fraud and Corruption Policy. Mr. Zhang is also Chairman of the Bank Group's Crisis Management Committee. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Zhang was Vice President and Secretary of the World Bank from 1995 to 1997; and Executive Director for China from 1994 to 1995. Earlier, Mr. Zhang held a number of senior positions at the Ministry of Finance in China. |
