| Notes | The Honourable Archibald Lesao Lehohla was born in Mafeteng on July 28,1946. He did his primary education at Hermon Higher Primary School in the Mafeteng District from 1952 to 1959 where he obtained his Standard 6 Certificate. From there he proceeded to Mafeteng Secondary School where he did his Junior Certificate from 1960 to 1963. From 1964 to 1965, he was at Basutoland High School where he completed his Cambridge Overseas School Certificate. He later did his Bachelor of Science Degree at the then University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) at Roma, from 1966 to 1970. From there he proceeded to Oxford University in the United kingdom where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree. In 1982 he was admitted for a Master of Arts (MA) degree at the same university. He was elected Member of Parliament in the Mafeteng Constituency in the 1993 general elections and appointed Minister of Home Affairs (Local Government, Rural and Urban Development). In 1995 he became Minister of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications. In 1996 he became Minister of Education and Manpower Development. Mr Lehohla won elections again in the Mafeteng Constituency in 1998 and was re-appointed Minister of Education. His record of service after his scholastic career includes being a Teaching Assistant in the Mathematics Department at the UBLS from 1971 to 1972, Assistant Teacher at Bereng High School from 1975 to 1976 and Headmaster for Bereng High School from 1977 to 1993. Mr. Lehohla has made contributions within the community as well as internationally. He has been chairman of the Mafeteng Tractor Owner's Cooperative; Church Elder and member of the Mafeteng L.E.C. consistory; member of the Lesotho Headmasters and Headmistresses Association; and has served as chairman of the Scott Hospital commission of inquiry in 1990. He represented Lesotho at a Commonwealth Seminar on Educational Administration and Supervision, held at the University of Nairobi in 1977. He was awarded a UNESCO fellowship to further Mathematical studies at Oxford in 1975. He served as a Member of Lesotho Evangelical Church Law Review Commission and a member of the L.E.C. Educational Secretary's Advisory Committee on Education. His hobbies are gardening, singing and crop farming. He is married with two sons and a daughter. |
