Notes INJEP Supports the National Youth Institute in Madagascar
Under the leadership of the Malgasy Minister of Youth, Henri Randrianjatovo, the general director of the National Institute for Youth in Madagascar, Sylvian Razafindriaka, and the director of the National Institute for Youth and Community Education in France, Hervé Mécheri, signed an agreement between both structures.
In the end of April, the National Institute for Youth and Community Education (INJEP) and the National Institute for Youth (INJ) in Madagascar (located in Ambohijatovo, 30 km away from Antananarivo, in an enchanting site with a surface which is three times larger than that of the INJEP park) signed an agreement defining the bases of a close partnership between both structures. Technical and pedagogical support, youth and know-how exchange, training for executives and equipment are the bases of this agreement signed under the leadership of the Minister for Youth and Sports, Henri Randrianjatovo.
This study mission which was led by Mr Hervé Mécheri, the director of INJEP, and Mme Barbara Bicknell (International Cooperation Unit) followed the recent visit at INJEP of the Malgasy Minister of Youth and Sports, with the general director of Youth and Sports, Ravivo Solomampionona, and the head of Cultural Activities and Socio-economic Integration of Young People, Brutho Bezaka.
It is the opportunity for INJEP to get involved in a project assisting 40 per cent of youth, led by the Malgasy Ministry. This programme is the national priority in Madagascar, where six out of ten people are under 25 years old, and with very high illiteracy rate and class repeatings.
Today, the Malgasy government is trying to curb the increasing youth unemployment by encouraging the setting up of micro-companies, since it is obvious that the development of the «Large Island» relies on young people.
INJEP, willing to bring support to the Malgasy government, first plans to help INJ acquire micro data-processing equipment and overhaul its premises, through the organization of a voluntary workcamp for young French and Malgasy people planned for year 2006.
Indeed, there is a urgent need for INJ, which has so far granted more importance to sports trainings, to organize further trainings for local leisure activity leaders, because they are very few -except in the capital Antananarivo- in particular in rural areas where no activity is proposed to young people.
INJEP also brought support in AIDS prevention through the spread of its editorial tools («Youth and AIDS» guides, CD-Rom, web sites: www.sida-jeunes.org) among the partners involved in the fight against the illness: the Ministry for Health, UNAIDS, Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, Care International.
Besides, during an interview with the Malgasy Minister of Health, a proposal was made to include both pedagogical tools in a «health kit». It could be broadcast among advanced athletes, who often need to travel abroad, and basic HIV/AIDS trainings could be organized.
